My name is Erica Aguiar, and I'm a freshman at the University of Florida. I'm majoring in Journalism, and I'm an FOS student! This is a collection of all things Gainesville throughout my first semester. Enjoy(:

So sad that this will be my last post :(

Mostly because it means this is our last First Year Florida class. Thanks to everyone in this class for being a supportive, welcoming group. And thank you to TJ and Des for truly teaching the best and most wonderful section of First Year Florida. You two made my first semester an easy transition and extremely memorable.

And, as every single person at UF does, I’ll sign off with this…

GO GATORS!

My final advice to first year students…

Your first year is insane. Learn how to balance your time. Even if you were valedictorian of your high school, don’t take 17 credits your first semester.

Clubs are a great way to become involved, but choose the ones you like, not the ones you think will look good on a resume. And don’t overload yourself.

Be yourself! The worst thing you can do it be something you’re not or something you think you should be. UF is so diverse that I guarantee you’ll find somewhere to fit in.

Enjoy it! I’m surprised spring semester is already over. Make the best of every moment here.

Career Resource Center presentation

Learned about all the amazing resources they have, including the library, mock interviews, and resume editing!

Who knew how important fonts and margins were in a resume? So interesting!

Advising Appointment

I met with my academic advisor four times before fully coming to a consensus on my Spring schedule and my next 3 1/2 years at UF. We decided my focus should be on magazine journalism, with a smaller focus on editing. She helped me plan my perfect spring schedule, complete with free fridays and no class before 10:40 am (:

This girl…

will be a First Year Florida Peer Leader next fall (:

First year florida soon…

Des said to dress for vandalism?

Something tells me we’re going to the 34th street wall.

HOUSING FAIR.

Every cheap college kid’s paradise.

I believe this counts as a fall fair, so here it goes!

I strongly advise every single one of you to visit the Housing fair, regardless of where you’d like to live. I received nine free t-shirts, four cups, a mug, two pairs of sunglasses, pizza, candy, and so much more. On another note, the information I received was truly helpful in making my decision for off campus housing next fall. Each booth gave me prices, layouts, and tour info so that I can make the most informed decision I can. It was such a great experience!

Made it

to ROUND THREE of First Year Florida Peer Leader interviews (:

I’m so nervous but so excited :D

Finally, a Gator win!

Yay for beating Vandy!

I love my Gators! :D

Time to watch Finding Nemo (:

Just finished my First Year Florida interview

I think I did really well, but you can never tell with these things. I want to be a peer mentor so badly, I truly hope I make it to round three!

I WILL BE A CICERONE.

I went to the Florida Cicerone’s Fall Forum today, and I can’t wait for it to be Spring so that I can apply. Being a Cicerone would be the best experience I could have!

Couldn’t be more excited right now!

Today my journalism class had a guest speaker, and it made me realize that I am totally in the right major.

Kristin Harmel is an author of six novels, has written for People Magazine for over a decade, and has been published in major magazines for sixteen years!

She is definitely someone I want to be when I graduate!

Krishna lunch!
Not as tasty as I imagined, but hey, it’s a tradition (:

Today was so much fun!

Setting up a haunted house AND scaring little kids? What more could we ask for?

This was such an amazing service project! (:

And hitting up Red Burrito afterwards was fun too :D
